Bob and Tom met at the first NCRS Judges Retreat in Dallas in 2005. They immediately hit it off as they were both in the process of restoring their cars and becoming Master judges in the NCRS organization. But probably the most common denominator they found in each other was an insatiable desire to figure out what the Corvette was really like when it left St. Louis. They are both very type A and love the fact that the details of restoring these great cars never end. While trading information over the years they decided to share all they have learned in the hopes that you too will enjoy the details that make these cars great. This book is a compilation of the things they have learned along the way – many of them the hard way.

The Handbook will help you restore your 1958-60 Corvette back to the day it was when it rolled off the factory assembly line. In it, you will find information on factory labels, inspection marks and even paint overspray. You will learn that nothing is obvious when putting your car back together correctly and you will benefit from Bob & Tom’s years of researching these cars down to the smallest detail. The Handbook details not just what various features on your car should look like, but what the procedures were that made them that way. Understanding these procedures make for a much easier restoration.

And the authors don’t just simply describe something to you. They illustrate it with detailed color photographs of every detail of these Corvettes. In addition, photographs of reproduction parts are shown side by side with original parts, so you can see the differences for yourself.

For items that are not available or not correctly reproduced, such as the stainless on the taillight lenses or a properly functioning hood opening handle, Bob and Tom show you how to make your reproduction part look and function like the original. The Handbook is also replete with dozens of tech tips that will allow you to do things right the first time.

For those going for Performance Verification on the way to the Duntov Award or simply wanting their car to function as the factory intended, the authors have dedicated an entire chapter to the many things, such as leaks, squeaks, rattles, and the proper functioning of items that, though not directly related to originality, must nevertheless be addressed.

Bob and Tom have both been exactly where you are and it is their hope is that the Handbook will help you seek out the originality of your car and strive to make it as close as possible to its wonderful original self.
